Een rood bier in Vlaamse stijl, gerijpt in een Franse eiken foeder. Een deel hiervan is hervergist met zure kersen en bramen en verder gerijpt in portwijnvaten met cacaonibs en vanille. Krachtig zuur en complex.
The sour cherry and blackberry tang hits right up front, then the port barrel cacao and vanilla smooths it all into a silky finish. I've had plenty of red ales, but this one's depth from the foeder aging honestly made me slow down and sip it like a fine wine.
The oak from the foeder comes through clean first, then the port wine barrels add a rich, dark sweetness that lingers. I opened one after letting it warm slightly and the vanilla and cacao were much more present. This is one of those beers I'm already planning to buy again.
The cherry and blackberry really pop after the Port barrel aging, and the vanilla softens the tartness into something dangerously drinkable. I poured a glass expecting dessert and ended up with a complex, earthy sipper that changed as it warmed.
