Cette stout impériale, élaborée avec 7 types de malt différents, repousse toutes les limites - un peu sucrée, un peu fumée, un peu torréfiée, et beaucoup de chocolat, avec du lactose pour l'onctuosité. Vieillie 12 mois en fûts de cognac et de bourbon.
Poured it last night and the chocolate comes through heavy on the nose before the smoky notes kick in on the finish. The sweetness from the lactose keeps it dangerously smooth for a 7-malt imperial stout — I'd have happily sipped a second bottle.
The smokiness really balances the sweetness from the lactose, and the roasty malt gives it a nice depth without being overpowering. Each sip feels different as it warms up, and the chocolate lingers just right. I’ve already got a second bottle put away for a special occasion.
The chocolate comes through strong but the smoky edge keeps it from being one-note, and that lactose really does make it silky on the tongue. I cracked one open after dinner and it was dangerously easy to sip for something this big.
